CBD Spending soon to be slashed in Tasmania

A recent forecast of budget cuts by the Tasmanian Public Sector Union suggests that Hobart’s CBD could face a fall in spending by up to 15$ million a year.

The survey of over 100 public servants who work locally in the area found they spent an average of $205 per week.

This amount has to be compared to the equivalent of 2,500 jobs which were identified by Premier and Treasurer Lara Giddings as being in danger in the upcoming budget.

When the union was questioned they said that job cuts to that extent would have a destructive effect on the economy in the capital.

The Premier (Lara Giddings) retorted that a previous report on the economy from the union had been fundamentally flawed.

“What we have to do is make the right decisions for Tasmania,” she said.
